fantastic story on cbc. a climber on ascent of mount everest comes across a climber with no gear and left for dead by his sherpas. apparently within 200 metres of the summit turned back to save this fella’s life and return to the base.

can’t imagine nearly achieving the summit of one of your dreams only to have to return and hopefully come back for another attempt. true sacrifice to put someone else’s health and safety ahead of your own. i’m sure the australian climber’s family are eternally grateful.

a proponent for the national rifle association and a nay-sayer on gun control accidentally shoots one of his mates hunting. dick cheney shoots someone as they flush out game on a hunting trip.

this one speaks for itself. weapons in the hands of a mental midget. funny that he also controls, through his decision making, the weapons of one of the worlds most powerful armies. scary…

well mp3 players are getting continually smaller revision after revision, release after release. mine a third generation ipod will easily fit in my jacket pocket, or under the flotsam and jetsam in my backpack. but if that’s too cumbersome there are stories of a new storage device for your music storage device – your boobies, tits, tatas, tomatoes, gazongas… store your mp3 player right in the fun towers, who’d a thunk it.

“sorry honey, just though i’d make a custom playlist…” – as he fondles his significant other.

sorry guys, doesn’t look like we have the space to put it in our body. at least not yet, i can read the marketing now “the iSack, put your mp3 player in your marble sack”.

179-336-0280 calling from india, i mean california, i mean, well i don’t know

getting strange calls on the phone? calls from strange area codes?

apparently we’re not alone. people all over canada and the US are receiving phone calls from 179-336-0280, a number that seems to be linked to a VOIP (voice over internet) account for a company allegedly commiting telephone fraud.

they are using a VOIP telephone account to relay calls all over the world since VOIP accounts have no fixed area code. quite an interesting pickle and discovery for this new technology – apparently no one thought of this. leave it to the porn industry or organized crime to find new uses for technology. we’ve entered a computerized version of “phone spam”.

i guess i’m just glad that no one is using technology for anything productive like cures for cancer or other diseases, but other ways to piss me (and you) off with marketing products or criminal organizations.

rationalizing an “appropriate” killing

a report today of a reuters journalist being killed in iraq. apparently hanging out the window of a fast moving car, holding “something” is just cause for american troops to kill someone on site. the horrible thing is they claim a soldier’s reaction to shoot and kill them was “appropriate”. the journalist was middle eastern looking, must be a terrorist, right? i’m sickened…

shoot first and wait to see the whites of there eyes. i have a feeling years down the road, america will have a lot to answer for.

i’ve found a fascinating side-project of the wikipedia project. for the uninitiated, wikipedia is an online encyclopedia completely open to contribution by users of the internet, a collaborative encyclopedia if you will.

i’ve always been fascinated by “famous” people’s quotes. now, wiki has wikiquote a compendium of quotes that is searchable and once again contributed by users. extra cool.

here are a couple of favorites –
