the past few weeks we’ve been watching all the episodes of the showcase show “dexter”. without a doubt one of the best and creepiest shows i’ve watched in a long time. it chronicles the life and foibles of a forensic blood splatter investigator. the guy is a serial killer who works for the miami police on crime scenes to find – serial killers. it stars michael c. hall of six feet under fame. he is absolutely brilliant as both a perfectly normal neighbour and boyfriend, and perfectly derranged killer.

if you’ve got some time to kill (pun intended), i’m sure you’ll get sucked right into this drama. note – it’s not for the faint of heart, there are some disturbingly graphic scenes of violence.

dumb dora was so dumb…
we’ve also been watching “match game 75″ on the game show network. can’t believe how sassy and saucy the 70s gameshows were. laden with sexual innuendo and cheap gags, but genuinely entertaining. sad to say some of the old reruns are more captivating than most of the crappola that’s on TV now. no flashing sets, no voting members off, just good old fashion fun through double-entendre and plays on words.

unfortunately, when things have enormous hype they’re usually not all they are cracked up to be. case in point – the davinci code.

i haven’t read the book, but if it’s is even remotely like the new film starring tom hanks it’s less than specatular. i’ve heard people raving about this new book, and was a bit sceptical. now i know why.

saw the movie last night and honestly i can see why christians (which i am not) are a bit pissy. it basically calls into question fundamental beliefs of christianity. but, whoah, get a grip people – it’s a MOVIE. those people moving around on the screen, they aren’t real people it’s called a movie. but nevertheless it does look like reality. and for most of them who have no concept of popular culture or real life, i’m sure this can be confusing.

frankly, if this was a code, it wouldn’t have lasted 25 seconds with anyone beyond the intelligence of a grade-school mathematician. the plot and “great secret” was abundantly clear minutes into the movie.

honestly, i spent more time trying to figure out how much liquid my bladder could continue to hold, and how long it would be before i pissed my pants after drinking two behemoth drinks. let’s see – three hours (that’s the length of the movie), divided by 2.5 litres of diet coke, and carry the one… you get the picture. now that my friends is a code or problem worthy of davinci.

great mysteries are tough to solve, this movie is like a crossword puzzle from the kids section of the local paper. 60 million people can’t be wrong, or can they… poor leonardo, likely rolling in his grave.
