high, wood, highwood

had an afternoon off finally now that my last exam was done. it’s the nicest day we’ve had for a long time, 15 celcius, sunny and not a cloud in the sky.

took a spin outside the city today through bragg creek, turner valley, black diamond and out to the gate at the highwood pass. not a car in sight the whole way there, partly because the highway is still gated off until mid-june. great riding, it’s nice to have the whole highway to myself.

usually around this time of year i go to the gate at the entry to the highwood pass, stop at the gas station have a pop and munchies, watch the hummingbirds and head back. unfortunately the gas station is closed still. so i had a little break, and humped it back home.

good test ride and first ride of the year – about 250 kms. the new windscreen makes a big difference noise-wise. i also bought some speakers for my helmet to listen to my ipod, works fantastically well. i wear earplugs to get rid of the wind noise, and the speakers are as clear as a bell right up to about 150 km/h then the wind noise drowns them out.

9750 kilometres to my riding goal this summer.
