hopefully my picture says a thousand words

as a student/scholar of canadian history, and history in general, it’s interesting to see how moments and great people are often reduced to a scant biography and a photo. that photo is forever associated with all that is the person associated with it.

what’s really interesting is that so many of the photos that are left behind for posterity are really awful representations of those people, used simply because no suitable alternative is available.

ever flipped through old photos with your grand-parents, or my case when i was really young great, and great-great grandparents, and have them reveal the family tree. one picture “that is your great great grand-father nonny”. one photo as the complete representation, for me anyway, of that man’s life.

hopefully the one photo that people find of me off in the distance of time will be one that is in focus, my eyes are both open, hopefully smiling and without odd expressions. i’ll leave the rest of the interpretation up to them…
