Superfunkomatic - Observations of the Socially Inept

flipping through the infamous 357 channels and nothin’ on (making bruce springsteen proud) last night. stumbled across a film called “el mequinista” with christian bale.

one of the most creative, disturbing and interesting movies i’ve seen in a while. a psychological thriller of a character’s battle to make sense of his world and his psyche amidst a year without sleep.

christian bale lost 60 of his 180 pounds to portray this disturbed man. stunning performances, editing and cinematography. i must have been asleep when it was released since i don’t recall hearing any buzz about it - but alas, movies like this have a very limited release and audience in the creative hive of calgary.

well worth a rent if you find it in a local video store, or it’s on movie central HD if you tune in.
