the king is dead, long live the king – and his commercial earning power

elvis has been dead for decades yet, each year he continues to make more money than an average worker will make in their entire life. but alas, the poor old king – a model of all american values – greed, obeisity, drug addiction has been ‘the king’ for several generations.

well at least now he’s been dethroned commercially by a new and rising star who’s also been dead for 13 years – kurt cobain. kurt is the new champ among the dead with the highest earnings in a recently released account of dead-stars wealth.

america a culture with a fear of discussing or confronting death has a culture of dead superstar worship.
