off comes the blouse

well, i’d had enough of looking at the crappy old vinyl siding on the front of the house. i know that in the 70s and 80s it was a fashionable thing to do - dress up the house with vinyl siding. well, it sure as hell isn’t fashionable anymore. it was an eyesore, one which we could no longer tolerate.

the scary part is once the “clothing” is removed you never quite know what to expect. at first glance it doesn’t seem to be too bad (hopefully i don’t look back in a month or so and swear aloud for taking the siding off).

so we’ve stripped it back to its naked stucco self and with some caulking repairs and new trim it’ll look as good as new.

just like everything else by the former homeowner, the siding was installed completely incorrectly. it was really easy to remove.

now it’s easy to see why the house was so chilly around the bay window. there are 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch gaps all around the window. nothing was ever sealed or caulked. so that’ll be another project - removing the bay window for something more energy efficient.

See photos of the siding removal. You can see how utterly unimpressed the hounds are while they are staring out the window as i rip the siding down.

oh man. those gaps are criminal! i hate shoddy house repair/remodeling! seems like people do it to save a buck, but then it ends up costing more to fix it than if they just did it right in the first place.

can you tell i live in a house that suffers from some frugal-zealot add-ons? :)

    cute dog!

yes, can’t understand it either. why bother if you can’t do it right, or at least hire someone who can - but that costs money which i think was the problem. tight wads.

i’m de-frugal-zealotizing the house as much as possible ;)

yeah the hounds are pretty good little helpers/supervisors.
