okay, i think this is wierd.

riding on the bus this morning, someone was reading their paperback novel. they had it wrapped in a cloth cozy around the binding and cover of the book.

two things - why would you need to protect a paperback with a cloth cover? if you needed a more versatile book it’s called a “hard cover”. also, if you read enough that it warrants a book cozy, wouldn’t you read enough that it wouldn’t stay on the book long, since you’d be such a voracious reader that you’d finish a paperback in a few sittings?
