rednecks with bullets in their head
as you may, or may not know, canada is undergoing yet another federal election. it’s only been a year and a half but apparently confidence of the ruling party was lost in parliament so we’re going back to the polls. anywho…
the cbc did something quite clever - road stories. visiting many areas in canada to see what the general sentiment of the electorate is. well, last night they visited my hometown of calgary and the results were somewhat horrifying.
they had a liberal party supporter come out to calgary, from ontario, and try and “convert” conservative albertans to the liberal viewpoint. oh, my, god. we’re thought of a rednecks here in the wild west and the monkeys they interviewed the other night pretty much confirmed the view the rest of canada has of albertans.
they interviewed a guy in turner valley which is a tiny little village 100 kilometres south and west of calgary. here’s the profile and somewhat paraphrased quotes -
“don’t touch our guns, we like our guns, we need our guns.” no kidding, this guy had bullets on his table from an accident at a rodeo - oh, and one of the bullets is still stuck in his head above his eye. “lucky i didn’t get hit in the eye” - yeah, apparently it didn’t do anything to his head - lost the brain but saved an eye. he had an accident with a rodeo clown shooting bullets he “removed the shot” from to make blanks, but apparently he didn’t do a great job so he shot the guy in the head. i can’t help but ask why would you give any clown a gun, but i digress.
glad i get painted with the same brush as this idiot, and i do mean idiot in the clinical sense.
another burst of wisdom - two conservatives suggested that the democratic process “doesn’t represent them”, “we’re special and different here in alberta” so logically their solution is “i’m not voting in this election, it really doesn’t do anything to help us here”. what a fuckin’ ridiculous notion - if you don’t vote of course you’re not represented. pick up an encyclopedia or type “democracy” into google snapperhead.
also the reference to “those people in toronto just don’t get us out here”. for the uninitiated, our capital is ottawa, OTTAWA, not toronto. toronto has absolutely, positively nothing to do with it.
canada is quickly being divided into red/blue type groups much like the united states. one supporting human rights, freedoms, progress and all walks of canadian life and one much like GW south of the border - anti-abortion, conservative, christian, anti-gay/lesbian, big business before social programs and a closed-minded 1950s mentality. and like the US never the two shall meet, so diametrically opposed that there is little if any common ground.
tune in at month’s end to see what another election solves. likely, in my guess, nothing. and in the mean time stay away from painted faced individuals carrying guns with what may or may not be blanks. truth definitely stranger than fiction.
