the culture of “no”

in big organizations it’s often way easier to say no to things, than to give any effort whatsoever to make change or evolve.

frequent quotes - “why change? why do work? it’s been that way all along. no ones ever done that before, why should we start? why should we be different?”

the scary part is that these same people likely approach their own lives in the same manner. insulated from any inkling of real life. avoid change and any brush with something outside of their limited comfort zone.

how do things get better, more efficient or just plain interesting without trying the odd new thing? well, they don’t. nothing changes in a vacuum. once again fear of change and fear of anything outside of the norm rears its ugly head.

it frustrates me to no end. powers that be in my current job would rather i did nothing than provide creative new solutions that challenge the norm. better to do nothing than expend any effort to make things better. ugh.

honestly it’s a wonder that many people get jobs in a field of technology or technology support without having the ability to evaluate anything, or have any experience with, anything outside of a standard build of windows xp. i’d like to ask these jackasses how they think people communicate by voice over internet protocol, create dvd or online video content, chat with any chat software, edit photos - you have to download and test things. and frankly if your operating system of choice is so fragile that testing or adding new things to the mix causes problems - time to re-evaluate your choice again.

i guess in life there are people that do work, and those that plan, to plan, to plan to do work. the planners - life’s answer to a single-celled organism - a base life form, with no ability to think or act without the influence of an outside force.
