a hard day’s work
after almost 8 years perched in front of a computer as a web developer, every once in a while it’s nice to do some “real” work. my significant other and i have been working like mutherfuckers for the past few days putting up a new fence. i must say that concrete is really hard, and really hard to remove once it’s been setting for 20 plus years. removing the old piece of shit built by an idiot, and i mean idiot in the clinical definition of the word. what must of been going through their head when they were constructing what has been a nightmare to remove, i’m guessing the little gerbil on the wheel in their head hadn’t turned a revolution in some time.
“drywall screws” - for a simpleton, these are screws used in drywall - not for constructing a fence of any kind, in any conditions or climate.
paint or stain your fence at least once a decade, or it will rot and fall over.
keep your wooden bits off the ground, else they will rot and fall over.
concreting in your posts is a bad idea, because if they move, and trust me, they move - you’re fucked and your fence will rot and fall over.
and speaking of falling over, my ass was grass by the end of each of the past two days. only with a jackhammer, my pipes of steel (okay, pipe cleaners), my humble assistant and i were able to remove 6 of 20 posts. what an ass whipping. but, man looking at it once completed and it brings our house from one that looks like it’s on the skids to a million dineros.
nothing worth while ever comes easily, and this wasn’t easy, but the results are great visually and the sense of accomplishment really makes it worthwhile too.
