the latest crazes, and being fired for blogging

Published by superfunkomatic at Apr 09, 05 | 12:21 am under computer geekery, general rants

they are manufacturing “trends”. blogging is exploding in the media this year, it’s everywhere. even big corporate weasels are looking into blogging as a “communication” tool. guys it’s not new it’s years old - it’s just that their kids are doing it now, so they are aware of it. it’s happening right down the hall.

board meetings must be really exciting for the technologically illiterate now - read Cnet and then start rattling things off in the meeting - “well we’ll have to be open source, you know like linux, and we need to get our RSS feeds up, let’s tag our photos, and we have to also be scalable…” on and on.

turns out people will believe that anything is a trend if they hear it on the news enough times. like the pending pandemic, or being fired for someone finding your “private” blog. you know what - people are pissed off, people are angry with their bosses - and they’ve found an outlet.

but if you are dumb enough to believe no one will find it, well pull your head from between your butt cheeks. if you say your co-worker or boss is an A-hole, or you ride the dog at work - guess what you should be fired. would you put a sign around your neck at work saying - “bob is an asshole” or “my boss doesn’t know i’m doing nothing right now”? probably not, so why do people think it’s a good idea to put into a public forum? it’s really beyond me. have the same respect online as if you were talking with someone face-to-face.

back to the media - these are the big stories. no one is covering peaceful assembly by blogging online, or the simple sharing of information between like and/or unlike minds. we constantly grappling with information presented through mass-media that’s the lowest common denominator. maybe the focus should be less on technology, and more on creatively communicating. just like my parents used to say - just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t make it right (or interesting)
