why i’m a vegetarian
and it’s often toned as “what could possibly make you want to do that?”
i must admit before i became a vegetarian 10 years ago i found it a hard concept to fathom myself.
one television show on food processing and animal treatment in food processing plants in 1994 changed me and my eating behavior for ever. the chemicals injected to grow large animals to satisfy north american portions were usually untested, with little or no thought given to long-term health affects associated with hormones and genetic modification in human’s food.
it aslo showed how chickens, pigs and cows lived in complete squalor – eating, lying and spending nearly all of their time in feces and urine.
the mechanical processes to “prepare” animals to become food – like something out of a movie, or a novel – huge assembly lines for removing heads, fur/feathers and skin. animals beaten to death, boiled to death, drown as part of the “preparation”. here’s an example of the complete lack of disregard for life – http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=pilgrims_web
it aslo explained north americans reliance on meat as a source of food – although our bodies are designed to eat it only in small amounts on rare occasions – think back to our omnivorous past over time – no mcdonalds then, you have to run, hunt and gather for months on end for food.
i stopped eating meat the next day.
do you need a reason to re-evaluate why you eat meat?
here’s a video about reasons to become one – http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=chew_on_this
do you have any idea what really happens to your food, or what that chunk of beef was before it hit the local Safeway store? i offer the opportunity for you to see first hand information that may make your decision easier, a video of a food processing plant. the PETA site has a whole video section well worth investigating.

another fantastic example is meat as prepared by mcdonald’s restaurants around the world in the movie Supersize Me. learn to gain more than 40 pounds in 3 weeks and cause major bodily systems to fail. http://www.supersizeme.com/
